Pirate adventure 'Atlas' joins Xbox Game Preview in October, supports cross-play

What you need to know

  • Atlas is an open-world multiplayer game from the creators of Ark: Survival Evolved.
  • It's joining Xbox Game Preview on October 8.
  • The game will support cross-play and feature mouse and keyboard support at launch.
  • The console and PC versions will be updated at the same time so no one gets left behind.

At The Game Awards 2018, the developers behind Ark: Survival Evolved announced Atlas, a Sea of Thieves-like pirate game, but one that combines a lot of different mythologies. You'll face off against giant hydras as well as deadly whales as you explore the various islands in the open world. Let's hope that it runs better than Ark: Survival Evolved because even after all these years, it's broken on Xbox One and Xbox One X.

According to the team, Atlas is nearly 1,200 times bigger than Ark: Survival Evolved and will support up to 40,000 players simultaneously. Those certainly aren't numbers to scoff at, but we'll need to wait and see if the studio can deliver on that promise. If you can't wait to get your hands on the game on Xbox One, you'll be happy to know that it's coming to Xbox Game Preview on October 8.

The title will support cross-play and include mouse and keyboard support. This means that players on PC can play with players on consoles. Hopefully, there will be a 60 frames per second mode to take advantage of the mouse input method. If you utilize a slow frame rate, using a mouse becomes quite cumbersome due to input lag.
